Wilmot Township Council Denounces Racism and White Supremacy

Wilmot Township council released the joint statement saying white supremacist groups are not welcome after word of a "White Lives Matter" protest in New Hamburg.

WILMOT TOWNSHIP - Wilmot Township is denouncing hate speech and white supremacy in a joint statement from council.

The call comes after a poster was found in New Hamburg advertising a "White Lives Matter" event in May. 

The statement from council was signed by Mayor Les Armstrong and signed by all members of council.

It states the Township of Wilmot unequivocally oppose racism of any kind and denounce hate speech and white supremacy. White supremacist groups are not welcome in our community.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating the planned protest. Councillor Cherl Gordijk first brought the issue to light with a message on Twitter on Wednesday.
