Woodstock City Council Honours Seniors Month

Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch has officially proclaimed June as Seniors Month and David Hilderley has received the Senior of the Year Award.

WOODSTOCK - June has officially been proclaimed as Seniors Month in the City of Woodstock.

Mayor Trevor Birtch made the proclamation at the council meeting on Thursday. He also announced this years winner for Senior of the Year.

"Many of your listeners already know David Hilderley, a former teacher, real estate agent and more importantly a large volunteer in the community, representing the South Gate Centre and their expansion plan. He was nominated by several people in the community and received the Senior of the Year Award for the Friendly City."

Birtch says the Southgate Centre has done an amazing job in keeping seniors connected and active, during the pandemic.

"They do a great job with the programs and services they offer, keeping those social connections going and making sure everyone's mental health is where it should be. They have so many great opportunities, we heard about a recent drive thru event, where they were able to give out free hot dogs and they have a lot more planned, especially as more restrictions are lifted."

South Gate Centre has been hosting a number of safe and fun activities in June. You can find more details online here
