Woodstock Considers Tour of Lights Expansion

Woodstock City Council will look over a report from staff that recommends bringing back the Tour of Lights bus tours in an expanded format.

WOODSTOCK - The Tour of Lights could be making a bigger and better comeback in the City of Woodstock.

City Council will be looking over a proposal during this Thursday's meeting to offer two days of Christmas light tours using City buses, one on Sunday December 10th and the other on Sunday December 17th.

A total of 10 buses, with a total of 1,200 seats, would be used between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. with each bus offering two 50-minute tours. This is a big change, considering that only two buses were used for six different nights in December 2019 with up to 360 seats available.

The City has been unable to offer the Tour of Lights bus tours since the pandemic. It instead sold maps detailing the light displays in Woodstock, so people could check out the lights by themselves. Mayor Jerry Acchione says the maps will be available again this year.

The Tour of Lights tickets would be sold for $3 each and the maps would be sold for $5 each, with all of the money raised would be going to United Way Oxford. Each bus will also have a food donation box for the Woodstock Salvation Army Food Bank.

According to a report in the City Council agenda, the Tour of Lights ticket sales alone have the potential to raise $3,600. Bringing back the Tour of Lights in this format would cost the City $2,000 in terms of fuel costs and employee salaries.
