Woodstock City Council will be helping Kids Help Phone for their annual walk.

WOODSTOCK - Kids Help Phone is going to get help from Woodstock City Council for their upcoming fundraiser.

The 18th Annual Walk So Kids Can Talk is happening in the Friendly City later this year.

Mayor Trevor Birtch says they'll be helping them with the event.

"What they have asked for is a little bit of in kind help from the city to allow them to do some advertising and have a portable stage for some of the activities, and we'll probably also throw in some of our Woodstock Auxiliary Police to be on hand as well and participate, so there'll be a lot of participants. This takes place in many other communities, and of course here in Woodstock, we understand how much it matters to get the awareness out there, that there are resources and that you can always find someone to talk to, whether in person or on Kids Help Phone."

Mayor Birtch says these types of events helps remove stigma.

"One of the things that I have seen over the years at events like this is having the community come together and individuals will share their own experiences and how they have been able to get the help they need. So it helps remove some of the stigma when there's crisis that come our way, whether it's mental health and others. So just a really good way to encourage people that it's okay to not be okay and that there are services out there."

The fundraiser, presented by Bank of Montreal, is being held in 39 communities across Canada. This is the third year it is being held in Woodstock.

The proceeds will go towards Kids Help Phone.

The event will happen on May 5th at College Avenue Secondary School and it will go from 8:00am to 12:00pm.
