The Food Rescue Hub will receive $100,000 total.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is making a significant contribution towards a Food Rescue Hub.
It's taking $50,000 out of the Community and Social Well-Being Reserve, plus another $50,000 out of the Community Grants Fund.
Once it's up and running, the Food Rescue Hub will to collect surplus food from local farmers, restaurants, and other food producers and distribute it to local organizations that help people in need.
The group organizing the Food Rescue Hub has already received enough donations to cover 50 percent of the start up costs which includes the warehouse space, refrigeration and training.
The Mayor's Task Force recommended that council approve $50,000 from the Community and Social Well-Being Reserve, but council decided to approve an additional $50,000 from the Community Grants Fund to make sure the group has enough funds to get the Food Rescue Hub up and running.
