22 new radios are on the way for the Woodstock Fire department. Fire Dept. officials came to City Council last week, asking to purchase the units from Spectrum Communications at a cost of $102,000. Deputy Fire Chief Brian Arnold says the radios they currently have are aging. "They need to be replaced every few years. Why we're specifically going with Motorola's, the infrastructure we have within our radio system, the equipment we currently have is Motorola. We need to maintain that compatibility of equipment." Arnold says the department is now in a position to offer one radio for every firefighter which he says is the safest possible protection, should they ever venture into a burning structure. "We'll be purchasing 21 additional portable radios with digital capability, and another mobile radio for a truck. The mobile radio goes onto the vehicles and the portable radios are for the firefighters to carry while they're responding to emergencies."
