Woodstock Hands Out Over $114,000 in Grants

The City of Woodstock has given grant money to 21 local organizations to help with their community projects.

WOODSTOCK - The city of Woodstock has officially unveiled the recipients for this year's Community Grant Program. 

This year $114,800 in grant money will be dispersed amongst 21 local organizations to help their community projects.


The recipients are as follows:

Woodstock Minor Ball Association - $15,000 for the WMBA Home Run Project.

Big Brothers Big Sisters - $10,000 for their group mentoring programs.

Woodstock YMCA - $10,000 for their Strong Kids Program.

Santa Claus Parade Committee - $10,000 for the annual parade.

Oxford County Department of Human Services - $10,000 to help children who can't afford recreational activities.

WDDS - $8,000 for an eight week Summer Youth Camp for those with developmental disabilities.

Woodstock Agricultural Society - $7,500 for children's activities at the 181st Woodstock Fair.

Woodstock Minor Hockey Association - $7,000 to fund a three day hockey tournament in Woodstock.

South Gate Centre - $5,000 to fund their Street Cruise event.

Rotary Club of Woodstock Music Festival - $5,000 to waive the admission fees for performances.

Woodstock Curling Club - $5,000 for building operation costs so they can offer their curling programs.

Woodstock Volleyball Club - $4,000 to help send the 14U team to Nationals in Ottawa.

Calvary Church - $3,000 for their contributions to Woodstock's annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Youth for Christ - $2,800 for voice, acting, music and dance training for students.

Why Not Us - $2,500 to fund their Street Mayor Classic.

Oxford County Branch of Ontario Genealogical Society - $2,000 for operating expenses (ex: purchasing library cataloguing supplies, preserving Woodstock heritage, etc)

Lawn Bowling Club - $2,000 greens maintenance costs.

Woodstock Cycling Club - $2,000 to purchase additional trail maintenance equipment.

Oxford Winds Community Concert Band - $2,000 to help offset the operating expenses of instrument storage and insurance.

Canadian National Shuffleboard Association - $1,000 to rent the Cowan Park Auditorium for four days.

Woodstock Triathlon Club - $1,000 to help fund their children's activities.


Councillor Todd Poetter is a member of the Community Grants Advisory Committee. He tells Heart FM the committee carefully examines each grant request when they disperse the money.

"We go through them individually, it's all based on their own merits and we just decide how much we can support them and whatever their endeavours and how much their projects benefit the community."

All of the grant money came out of Woodstock Slot Revenues.
