WOODSTOCK - The 2023 Ontario Hockey Federations U18 A Championship goes to the Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets!
The boys traveled to Porcupine, Ontario to fight for the trophy in the 7-game tournament. After beating out the other 5 teams over the weekend, the Jr. Vets faced off against Centre Wellington Fusion in Sunday’s championship game.
Head Coach Jack Vessoyan said he was proud to watch the boys come together and clinch the win as a team.
“The team as a whole. Everyone shared the workload which is wonderful to see as a coach because ultimately that’s what you want, is the team coming together. I truly was a team effort.”
The Junior Vets also took home the Alliance Championship earlier this month.
Vessoyan reminisced on how some of his team members won’t be back on the ice for the next season.
“There are some [team members] aging out this year. I have eight players that this was their final weekend of minor hockey and for them to go out as champions again. The biggest highlight is to see them go out as champions.”
Now that the 2022-2023 season is over, the Jr. Vets are excited to spend the summer relaxing and celebrating their win. The team has one more rink day scheduled, but Vessoyan said they will be using it as a celebration and farewell.
Registration for the Jr. Navy Vets for the 2023-2024 season opened last week. If you are interested in joining the team, visit their website.
