Woodstock City council will replace the boiler at the Woodstock Library after one of its components failed. The project will cost $40,000 and the work is expected to start right away.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City council will commit $40,000 to replacing the boiler at the Woodstock Library.
The money will come from the City's Capital Reserves Funds.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says one of the heating components had failed.
"That component could be replaced for about $8,000, but looking at the age of the existing boiler it was determined that rather than making that repair we would advance the capital plan. It had already been identified on the capital plan to replace the boiler in the next couple of years."
Woodstock City council authorized the funds during their meeting last Thursday, after it was initially proposed in next year's capital budget.
Staff's report says the boiler was installed in 1994 and is considered to be at the end of its life. The report adds it'd make more sense financially to have the boiler replaced now instead of putting in a temporary repair and then a replacement in the future.
He says the replacement will ensure a boiler system will be in place for many years.
"So this work will start right away. Staff will be going out for competitive bids and get the work done as soon as possible."
