MPP for Oxford County Ernie Hardeman announced today that the Woodstock Museum will receive $20,000 in Provincial funding to support senior docent programs.
WOODSTOCK - The MPP for Oxford County announced funding for seniors today to support programs at the Woodstock Museum National Historic Site.
Ernie Hardeman made the announcement today saying that many seniors face barriers to accessing programs and services that support mental and physical health, and a sense of community involvement.
“Social activities play a big role in seniors feeling well connected to the communities in which they live. That is why I am pleased that, through the Seniors Community Grant Program, Oxford will receive $20,000 to support the senior docent programs at the Woodstock Museum National Historic Site.”
Hardeman says Docents are those knowledgeable people who serve as guides and educators at places such as galleries and museums.
“The investment in additional training for the senior docents will go a long way toward meeting the province’s goal of helping our seniors stay active, healthy and socially connected within their own communities.”
He adds that the Seniors Community Support Program helps to better support the unique needs of seniors living in underserviced rural, remote, multicultural and Francophone communities. The program supports initiatives that combat elder abuse, programs and services that help prevent social isolation and help to keep seniors mentally and physically active.
“Investing in our seniors’ social and mental health enriches our community and helps improve their overall well-being.”
