93% of the 9-1-1 calls this long weekend in Woodstock were accidental or hang ups, also a senior was charged with impaired driving after a R.I.D.E program Saturday night.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police noticed a massive spike in dropped 9-1-1 calls this long weekend.
The Woodstock Police Communications Centre had 46 total 9-1-1 calls this weekend. Only 5 of them were legitimate emergencies, the rest were 9-1-1 hang up calls or accidental calls.
If you dial 9-1-1 by accident, do not hang up, even if the dispatcher has not answered the line yet. The call still registers and is treated as an emergency. Staying on the line allows dispatchers to gather information about your situation to confirm you are safe.
If you allow your children to play with your phone, deactivate the emergency 9-1-1 dial feature on your phone.
