The Woodstock Police and several community partners will host a frank panel discussion about the dangers of fentanyl
WOODSTOCK - An upcoming public forum will help educate the Woodstock community about the dangers of bootleg fentanyl.
The forum will feature a panel of representatives from different organizations: Woodstock Police, OPP, Oxford EMS, Fire, Public Health, CMHA Oxford, Addictions Services of Thames Valley, and hopefully a pharmacist and someone from the coroner's office.
Woodstock Police Chief Bill Renton says the public will be able to confront each panelist with their questions and concerns.
"We'll have the presentations and it will be open for questions during. There's going to be booths set up that after the presentations people can gain more information, literature, take-outs, or they can ask their questions then if they want a little more confidentiality."
The forum will have two presentations on Tuesday May 9th at Cowan Park. The first one will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the second will begin 5 hours later at 6:30 p.m.
Woodstock Police will have a live feed of both presentations on their Facebook page on the day of. OPP will also live stream the event through their Twitter feed.
Renton explains why it's important to shine a light on this topic.
"We've had some certificates coming back from Health Canada identifying that fentanyl is present in some of the drugs that are being used by people in the city here."
Renton adds the Woodstock Police Drug Enforcement Unit has been very proactive and they are targeting fentanyl and opioid based drugs.
