Woodstock Police are hoping to educate the public on the dangers of a deadly "bootleg" drug circulating in the City.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police is hosting a free general public meeting to talk about the dangers of illicit or bootleg Fentanyl.
Recently the local police and Health Canada announced that bootleg Fentanyl has been circulating in the Friendly City. Police say the first sample was being sold under the street name 'popcorn' the second was being passed off as heroin.
The General Public Forum is being held at Cowan Park twice on Tuesday May 9th at 1:30 pm and again at 6:30 pm. Both meetings will feature presentations from speakers about the dangers of this deadly drug.
The forum is all about coming together as a community to share information and awareness and to provide community resources.
Fentanyl has been causing overdoses across North America and Woodstock Police have responded to a number of calls for assistance on opioid overdose. A near fatal overdose is believed to be the result of illicit Fentanyl in Woodstock.
The public will get a chance to hear from Oxford County Public Health, Addiction Services, Mental Health, an Emergency Physician, a local pharmacy, Police, EMS and Fire will provide valuable information regarding awareness, prevention and education concerning this deadly drug.
If you can't make the meeting the presentations will live cast via the Woodstock Police Service Facebook page and the OPP will live stream the event via their twitter feed for those who cannot attend in person.
Several of the community agencies represented will have booths set up to distribute materials and answer questions or provide assistance.
An online awareness campaign supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police offers information about short-term Fentanyl antidotes at http://www.facethefentanyl.ca.
