Although the overall crime rate was down from 2013, there are some very serious issues in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - The 2014 Annual Report has been released by Woodstock Police.
Police Chief Bill Renton presented the report on Monday evening outlining the positives and areas needing improvement within the department. Renton hopes this will provide the public with a little insight about what goes on at the WPS. "Basically it is just an overview - it is a snapshot of our police service. It gives you a bit of an idea of how diverse of an organization we have, who take their responsibility in this community very seriously. I wanted to be able to show the community what we actually do, so it gives you a good idea all the services of what we actually provide."
Chief Renton say although the overall crime rate is down, there are some very serious issues in the city. "I think we are pretty constant I mean we were 6 or 7 percent down over 2013. Unfortunately, in the domestic violence area it shows that criminal charges are up so we have to look at the public awareness; it is key. We still continue with our community engagement, we have a very good criminal investigation branch, we will continue to do good criminal investigations, that's a big priority - safety on our roads."
Chief Renton says he is confident the public will work with the police to help make the Friendly City even safer. "Certainly it has been a pleasure on my behalf to be the chief of such a great organization here, and we will continue to try and be as professional and responsible as we can. Public safety isn't just a police issue it is a whole community working together. I look forward to engaging with the community and furthering those relationships. There is always ways to improve and we are looking at those efficiencies and we are looking at those ways that we can improve."
