WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are continuing to investigate an apparent cyber attack that occurred over the weekend.
As of right now, their email server is shut down as they look into the incident, but there is no impact to the public.
Police Chief Daryl Longworth says they are working on resolving the situation.
"Early Monday morning we detected a computer breach, a cyber breach of our computer systems which involved a virus, that was preventing us from accessing our severs. We took immediate steps at that time to contain and prevent any further implications. And we're currently working with our own IT experts and we're working with some technical advisors to resolve the situation as soon as possible."
Longworth says there is no impact on their day-to-day operations or emergency services.
He adds it also isn't impacting their ability to respond to calls for help and he encourages the public to get in touch with them at 519-537-2323 or to stop by the station. Also, if it is an emergency to call 9-1-1.
The attack also affected the City of Woodstock's email server, which happened on Saturday.
He says the internet remains shut down and they don't have the ability to communicate through the internet or by email.
"Before we bring our services back up online we want to thoroughly go through them and make sure there is no further potential impact before we bring them up, back up online."
Longworth adds they hope to have their servers up and running before the end of the week.
