WOODSTOCK - Safety around train tracks is the focus this week.
Woodstock Police Service has sent out reminders to residents when it comes to keeping safe where train tracks are present.
They mention, whether walking, driving, or cycling, never travel along the tracks, use the designated railway crossings - don't try to use short cuts, follow the signs and signals - they are there to keep you safe, stay alert - trains are much quieter these days, and you might not hear them if you are wearing headphones or ear buds, and lastly, keep your distance - sometimes trains are carrying loads wider than the tracks.
It is the goal to reduce the number of railway crossing and trespassing incidents across the country, which tragically injure or kill more than 2,100 people each year.
