Woodstock Remembrance Day Service a Resounding Success

Remembrance Day ceremonies were also held in Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Norwich, Beachville, Innerkip, Drumbo, Princeton and Plattsville.

WOODSTOCK - The annual Remembrance Day ceremony took place this morning at the cenotaph in Victoria Park.

Despite a bit of rain, the people of Woodstock still came out to show their support. Ceremony MC Ron Findlater gave his thoughts on the service.

"I thought it went very well. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people who were here. I thought the possibility of rain may have kept a few people away but no, we had a really good turnout."

Findlater was started the ceremony around 10:15 a.m. to start laying the wreaths in front of the cenotaph. The service included a performance of the Canadian National Anthem as well as God Save the King, a two-minute moment of silence with the flag lowered to half-mast for the fallen, and speeches from Acting Mayor Connie Lauder, Oxford County MPP Ernie Hardeman and more.

Unfortunately, due to the weather, the Harvard aircrafts were not able to fly over cenotaph.

Mayor-Elect Jerry Acchione was at the service today to pay his respects, and he commented on the turnout.

"Today was wonderful. The crowds were great. That's one thing the City of Woodstock can be very proud of. This day, every year, is well attended and today was no exception even with the threat of rain."

We have lots of pictures and video of the ceremony posted on our Facebook page.

Remembrance Day ceremonies were also held in Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Norwich, Beachville, Innerkip, Drumbo, Princeton and Plattsville.
