Woodstock Represented at World Junior Hockey Tournament

Woodstock's Ben O'Quinn is one of the linesmen in the World Junior Hockey Tournament.

WOODSTOCK - Someone from Woodstock has been hitting the ice at the World Junior Hockey Tournament, but not as one of the players.

Ben O'Quinn is one of the linemen in the tournament and he was a little surprised when he first got the call to fly out to Edmonton.

"I was a little shocked that they wanted me to come but life comes at you quick and you just have to adapt and I feel like that's what I did. I'm just trying to make the most of it."

O'Quinn adds he's probably one of the most inexperienced linesmen in the tournament because he just started working as a linesmen right when COVID hit.

He worked as a referee for the American Hockey League for two years beforehand.

O'Quinn says working the World Junior Hockey Tournament during global pandemic has also been a one of a kind experience.

He has been staying at a hotel attached to the Rogers Centre in Edmonton and he gets tested for COVID-19 daily.

He says they switch between a nasal test and a throat swab in order to keep the body guessing.

But O'Quinn says one of the highlights of his experience so far was working the Canada-Finland matchup on New Years Eve.

Team Canada won the game 4-1 in the end.
