The Woodstock Special Olympics Curling Team is once again heading to the Tankard!
They will be competing against Kingston in a showcase game between the two page playoffs on the final weekend at the 2018 Ontario Men's Provincial Championships in Huntsville. The team qualified for the honour on January 7 at the Southwest Tankard Qualifier hosted at Woodstock Curling Centre. 8 teams from South Western Ontario attended and competed in either the 'A' or 'B' division. The Woodstock Rockers competed in 'A' division and finished their day with a 3-0 record . They defeated Orillia 5-0, South Saugeen 4-2 and Brantford 3-0.
Head Coach Darlene Wood says the Rockers will take centre stage in their game.
"They will be playing on February 3rd at 5:00 pm on the last Saturday of the competition. That game will be held between the two Page Playoff games and then their will be a banner presentation after the evening Page Playoff game, that will most likely be televised, so certainly anyone watching the Tankard on TV might get a glimpse of us."
Wood says the team is really excited to play at the Provincials again.
"They are very excited to go to the Tankard, to have qualified in the "A" Division they understand that means they are getting better as a curling team. They are very excited to spending the weekend in Huntsville and enjoying the Provincial men's curling and watching some great curlers compete that weekend. We plan on making the most of the weekend and we are really looking forward to it."
The winner will take home a banner.
