Woodstock Wants People to be Safe Around Water This Summer

In promotion of Drowning Prevention Week, the City of Woodstock wants everyone to be safe in, on, and around the water.

WOODSTOCK - Going to the beach and swimming in the pool can be a fun activity but it can become dangerous very quickly.

The Lifesaving Society has teamed up with the city of Woodstock to promote Drowning Prevention Week.

Supervisor of Aquatics and Recreation Programs for the City of Woodstock, Jason Jolicoeur on what Drowning Prevention Week is all about.

"The focus is to really just get information out to families about how to be safe in, on, and around the water. In the summer months, that's what people like to do when it gets hot outside. People go to the beach, they swim in their backyard pools and there's risk associated with that, so they want to make sure families are being safe."

Jolicoeur stated that being present is key to water safety, putting the phone down and make sure your kid is safe, regardless of being at the beach or in a backyard pool.

He also talked about being safe on the water by stating that wearing a life jacket is always a good idea and restated the importance of being present.

The City would like to emphasize the importance of making sure your kids can save themselves from drowning with the swim to survive program offered to third graders at Southside Aquatic Center.
