The Wolverines' coaches have been in contact with staff from the Parks and Recreation department over certain field amenities such as bleachers and LED lighting.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City council will refer the Woodstock Wolverines football team's field amenities to next year's capital budget deliberations.
The team's coaches have been in contact with staff from Parks and Recreation Department on requests for the multi-purpose field at Cowan Sportsplex.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says these requests will help the organization.
"Just like when we deal with any of the recreational activities in the city, when you have a group that is passionate and has volunteers you want to make you listen to their needs and incorporate what's going to be best for the future."
Mayor Birtch says the features being requested are similar to the ones at the local ball diamonds.
"They're looking at having bleachers so that any of the spectators can comfortably watch the games. They're also looking for fencing around the field to make sure that everything stays in the area, as well as proper lighting."
The estimated project costs for these requests would be $445,000; the LED lights would cost $370,000, fencing would be $45,000 and the bleachers would cost $30,000.
Council's report says the project was done by the Parks and Recreation staff in order to keep field restoration costs low.
Mayor Birtch adds the multi-purpose field is already under construction. Construction began last month.
