Jenna Kayln decided to cover Something in the Orange by Zach Bryan from the girlfriend's point of view.
WOODSTOCK - She wanted to tell another side of the story.
Woodstock's Jenna Standish has been a local musician for years. She was known for performing at several events with her band and even participated in the Heart FM Big Break contest over 10 years ago.
She now goes by the stage name Jenna Kayln and she recently decided to post a cover of Zach Bryan's Something in the Orange online, written in the girlfriend's point of view.
"As soon as I heard Something in the Orange I was sold. I just loved it, learned it, and I have been covering it a lot but I felt like there was another side to the story. If he is feeling all of this, then what is she feeling? What is she going through as she's driving away?"
She is a big Zach Bryan fan, and she was inspired by his storytelling.
"It (the cover song) probably took me 15 minutes to write. It was in August and it was really quick because it was just coming to me. My husband had been like 'why haven't you posted that yet?' So I finally did and then this has happened!"
Standish has posted two videos of her singing the cover on TikTok since then. One video had over 105,000 views as of this morning, while the other had over 2.3 million views. Zach Bryan has not reached out to Standish about the cover yet, but she is hoping he will soon.
She is hoping to record the cover song, as well as some of her original music, and make it available on Apple Music and Spotify in the future.
Jenna Standish stopped by the Heart FM studio on Thursday February 1st for an interview with Dan and Marcie. You can listen to the full interview below:
