25 laid off employees will be back to work at the Ingersoll Cami Plant on Monday July 16th.
INGERSOLL - Twenty-five people are getting ready to go back to work at the Ingersoll Cami Plant.
Plant Chair Mike Van Boekel explains why they are recalling the laid off employees.
"You can retire after 30 years of service and we had our first people hit the 30 and out pension peak July 1st. So 25 people retired July 1st and they're recalling 25 people back for those jobs."
The employees with the most seniority will be called back first. They will be back on the job as of July 16th, once the plant opens up after its two week summer shutdown.
Van Boekel says more retirements will bring more people back to work in the near future; adding 200 to 300 people could retire next year.
But Van Boekel would like to have everybody back on the job as soon as possible.
"What I would rather see is a brand new vehicle come or be announced for our plant that would obviously bring everyone back to work within the next six months to a year or so. We're trying to have meetings about it and trying to get GM convinced to bring the next vehicle to Ingersoll and get everybody back to work that much quicker."
