A house on Centre Street in Norwich was destroyed by flames last Thursday morning.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - A house on Centre Street in Norwich is a complete write off after a massive fire last Thursday morning.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however it is not deemed suspicious. It is difficult for fire investigators to find the source of the blaze because of the extent of the damage.
Captain with the Norwich Fire Services Derek Van Pagee says the home was fully engulfed when crews arrived.
"When we got on scene crews were met with heavy fire spread throughout the garage and the roof of the structure. Once it was determined by us that all of the occupants had made it out of the house safely, we made the decision to go into a defensive attack, which means we basically have our hose crews apply water outside the structure."
Van Pagee says working smoke alarms could have potentially saved a few lives.
"Working smoke alarms in this case, helped people self evacuate, they were woken up by the alarms, they evacuated the facility. Anyone listening, make sure you check your smoke alarms, it could save your life."
