Oxford County Council approved a zone change application for the peopleCare expansion in Tavistock last week.
TAVISTOCK - Oxford County Council has approved a zone change application in order to pave the way for an expansion to peopleCare in Tavistock.
Warden Larry Martin says they switched the lands south of the long-term care home from Low Density Residential to Major Institutional during the Council meeting on Wednesday.
"That land was to be added to the peopleCare property that is presently there and by the end of the day they will be able to grow to 128 beds."
This will add another 28 beds to the long-term care home. The Ford Government approved funding for the expansion back in November 2020 and you can read more about that online here.
Martin doesn't know when the construction will begin yet, but he doesn't think it will be too long before we see shovels in the ground.
"A lot of it I think depends on the developer, pricing, and the RFPs that have to go out. I'm going to say the sooner they get the started the happier everybody will be and I'm quite sure they will want to start it as soon as they possibly can."
