Zorra Fire and Emergency Services has received a $5,000 cheque from Enbridge Gas through Safe Community Project Assist.

ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Zorra Fire and Emergency Services has received a $5,000 cheque from Enbridge Gas.

This is all through Safe Community Project Assist and Zorra Fire Chief Deanna Kirwin says the township will use the funds to purchase firefighting training materials.

“I am both proud of, and excited by the passion of Zorra firefighters and their commitment to training and firefighter education to help protect the residents of Zorra Township. We are thrilled to be selected as recipients of a portion of the Safe Community Project Assist funding, allowing us to purchase necessary training materials to support the ongoing learning and advancement of knowledge and skills within our department.”

Safe Community Project Assist is a program that's run through the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council and it helps fire departments in communities where Enbridge Gas Operates. Fifty fire departments across the province will receive a combined total of $250,000 through the program this year. Zorra's cheque presentation took place in Council Chambers yesterday.

Doug Chapman, the Supervisor of Southwest Region Operations for Enbridge Gas, says it's money well spent.

“At Enbridge Gas, safety is our priority. We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters who share our commitment to keeping our communities safe, healthy, and vibrant.”

Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC, says a total of 294 grants have been handed out since the program began in 2012.

“Safe Community Project Assist improves access to training materials for fire departments. Firefighting can be dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the health and safety of firefighters and the broader community."
