Mayor Marcus Ryan says he is wearing a face mask while out in public when he can't physical distance so he can protect the community.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - The Mayor of Zorra Township is encouraging residents to wear face coverings when they are in public.
Marcus Ryan explains why he wants everyone to wear a mask.
"I want more to open, I want people to be able to go back to work. I want businesses and services that have opened to stay open, I want more to open. I want people to go back to work and kids to go back to school, I want my community to be safe."
Ryan says you can't tell if you have COVID-19.
"I could be presymptomatic or asymptomatic. Our public health experts tell us there is growing evidence from around the world that wearing a mask can reduce the spread. We have seen what happens in places that don't listen to their public health experts. So from now, when I am out in shops or closed spaces where I can't physically distance, I am doing my part by wearing a face covering to protect my community."
Southwestern Public Health region, which includes Oxford County and the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit would be the only ones in this area to not have a mandatory mask by-law at this time.
County officials in Oxford County have confirmed they are discussing a face covering by-law, however nothing is on the table at the time of this publication.
