Several signs in the township have either been stolen or defaced and those caught will be facing criminal charges
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Zorra Township is concerned about a growing problem in the area.
Clerk with the Township, Ashley Sage, explains what the issues are they experience. "Well in the Township in Zorra there has been an increasing problem related to vandalism and thefts of signs. Staff here have had to replace a number of signs, some that have been damaged beyond repair, and some that have been stolen. This is just a really frustrating problem for our staff here as well as council as these types of issues do come at a cost that effect everyone."
With vandalized and stolen signs becoming a big problem, Sage spoke to Heart FM on why people are doing this. "We've just recently started experiencing this problem and we are not really sure why signs are suddenly being damaged or stolen. Theft is a criminal offence, the township will pursue criminal charges against anyone who is caught stealing signs, or who is caught in the possession of stolen property." What can cost several hundred dollars includes historical signs as well as road signs.
Sage is hopeful the culprits will get caught soon so employees don't have to spend any more time on this issue. "Just as of recently this has been brought to our attention so we are trying to deal with it in what we think is the best way possible. We urge anyone with any information regarding the theft and damage of the signs to please contact our by-law enforcement officer here at the Township. This is tying up a lot of resources that could be spent elsewhere."
