The new truck replaced a 25-year-old pumper rescue truck at the Uniondale Fire Hall and it cost roughly $470,000.
ZORRA - The Township of Zorra has given Council a tour of the new 5301 pumper rescue truck that is stationed in Uniondale.
The new truck was actually meant to arrive a couple of years ago, but due to pandemic-related delays, the pumper rescue has finally replaced the 25-year-old pumper at the Uniondale Fire Hall.
The new truck joins seven others trucks in the Zorra fleet, with a pumper and a tanker at all three fire stations in Embro, Uniondale, and Thamesford as well as two additional hybrid rescues in Embro and Thamesford.
Zorra Fire Chief Deanna Kirwin says the new truck cost roughly $470,000, and it will be a lot more dynamic than the one from 1997.
"With it being a pumper rescue, it just allows for more efficient crew transport. There's equipment for fire suppression, and medical response, so they can really operate on all different sorts of emergency scenes out of this one truck and deliver firefighters to the scene in jump seats allowing them to step off the truck ready for an efficient response. It's really an exciting addition to that station."
The last time Zorra received a new truck was a tanker in Embro. The next new apparatus will be coming to Thamesford this summer as the first custom cab in Zorra, another pumper rescue to replace their current pumper.
