The money will go to Cycles for Life, WDDS, Oxford Winds, Lawn Bowling Club, Historical Society and the Woodstock Legion Athletic Club.
WOODSTOCK - The City of of Woodstock allocated $14,000 in community grants last Thursday night.
Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch says the grant money comes from Gateway Casinos.
"The Community Grants committee made up of volunteers have been doing a wonderful job this year. They have really made sure to help what is needed most in the community and we will have money in reserve to give out next year. So hopefully the pandemic is over and we will be able to get started on more programs. Of course this is the money that comes from Gateway Casino's, from the slot revenue from OLG at the Woodstock Fairgrounds."
Birtch says 6 charities were chosen this year.
"We have given out money to Cycles for Life, Supportive Transitional Living, they run the resource table, located in the business front at Women's Employment Resource Centre. We also gave out money to the Woodstock and District Development Services to expand some of their programming and they have had additional expenses thanks to COVID as well."
Because the Gateway Casinos has been closed almost all year, there will be no revenue coming in next year, so the committee is making sure to keep some in reserve.
Here is the complete list of grant money that was handed out this year:
- Cycles for Life Supportive Transitional Living $1,000.00
- The Oxford Historical Society $2,000.00
- Oxford Winds Community Concert Band $2,000.00
- Woodstock and District Development Services $5,000.00
- Woodstock Lawn Bowling Club $2,000.00
- Woodstock Legion Athletic Club $2,200.00
