PERTH COUNTY – The Perth County Food Literacy Group and Huron Perth Public Health have teamed up to reveal the 2020 edition of the Food and Nutrition Programs and Services in Perth County.
The Perth County Food Literacy Group is a collective of residents and community agencies who are passionate about food literacy in Perth County. The goal of the group is to explore and identify new food literacy opportunities while providing education and support for food literacy in the community.
Food literacy is imperative to living a healthy lifestyle. It is being knowledgeable with food, having skills preparing food and feeling confident doing so knowing you are making healthy decisions.
Shannon Edmonstone, Public Health Nutritionist explains that food literacy is not just about preparing food but knowing where it comes from and how it affects others and our environment.
“Food literacy is also understanding how our food choices are impacted by the food system and our food environment, living situation and culture and beliefs. Better food literacy can help everyone in our communities enjoy better health.”
