Zonta Club of Woodstock and UNIFOR remember the Montreal Massacre
It's the 24th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre and the Zonta Club of Woodstock is marking the day by remembering all of the victims of gender-based violence.
Chairperson for the UNIFOR Local 2163 Women's Committee Laura Romanick explains why today is so important.
"It's our National Day of Remembrance. It's in honour of the 14 girls that were murdered at École Polytechnique 24 years ago just based on their gender. We honour this day in remembrance of them and to help educate the public so we don't repeat the error that happened 24 years ago."
The club hosted a lunchtime viewing of Sin By Silence, a documentary film that profiles the lives of women convicted of murdering their abusers and the American laws that have changed for battered women and raises awareness for those on the outside.
