Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia will be hosting A Walk In Their Shoes on Saturday October 19th.
WOODSTOCK - Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia will be hosting A Walk In Their Shoes once again.
The second annual fundraiser will be taking place at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Woodstock on Saturday October 19th this year. Registration starts at 1:00 p.m. and the event will run from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Shelley Green, the Founder of Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia, says part of the walk will be taking place inside the church.
"There is an educational and interactive part of the walk inside and the rest of the walk will be outside if the weather cooperates with us that day."
The educational walk indoors will run from 2:10 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. and followed by the outdoor walk from 2:40 p.m. to 3:05 p.m.
There will be refreshments from 3:05 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and that's also when you'll be able to check out the Ethiopian Merkato, an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, silent auction, and the Discover Ethiopia contest.
The closing ceremony will run from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Green says you should sign up for the event and start fundraising right away.
"If you get signed up online and raise $25 before Friday September 20th, the first five people to do so will receive a $20 gift card for Shoppers Drug Mart."
Shoppers Drug Mart is one of the presenting sponsors for A Walk in Their Shoes, along with Heart FM.
All of the money raised from the event will support Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia's projects overseas. This includes Tesfa's Shelter, which houses 54 kids in Harar, Ethiopia and supports an additional 40.
Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia is also working on a new pilot project called Wellness for Women, which is associated with Tesfa's Shelter. It's currently assisting six women with children involved with Tesfa's Shelter, helping with their physical, psychological, and economical wellness.
When you donate to Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia, Green says every dollar helps women and children in need.
"We are an organization with no staff, no office, and very little expenses. So when people donate their money, they can feel assured that their money is actually going to women and children in need. That is why I go to Ethiopia every year, is to make sure the money donated and raised here is being used appropriately, is being used effectively, and that it's changing lives."
