Jerry Acchione says he's ready to take on the new challenge of Woodstock City Councillor.

Longtime resident Jerry Acchione has filed his papers to run for Woodstock City Councillor and is using this slogan to gain support for the fall election.
Acchione says for him, the pending Woodstock Hydro to Hydro One sale is a top priority for in the next term.
"A lot of things that have been going on lately have really kind of raised an eyebrow. I don't necessarily agree with everything. I think we have lost a lot of transparency and accountability here in town and I want to change that."
"These days with social media and everything else there's a lot of way to get an idea, a thought across, get some input real quick and see what the public thinks. Again, social media is a very powerful thing and I think it has to be utilized and I plan on doing that."
He also says a big part of the upcoming election is community support.
"I think everybody has to come out and vote. If you don't want to vote for me, fine. I think it's really important if we want accountability in this city, everybody should get out and vote for the person they believe is going to do the best job and may the best people win. Simple as that."
Acchione has a long list of community involvement including Parade Marshall for the Santa Claus Parade, Auxiliary Sergeant with the OPP and 14 year member of the Woodstock Lion's Club.
He considered running in the 2010 election but felt the timing was not right for him -- four years later he says he is prepared and ready to take on this new challenge.
