K-W Animal Save collected over 11,000 signatures on a petition to ban a Tavistock pig farmer from ever owning or caring for animals again.
OXFORD COUNTY - An animal rights organization is hoping a Tavistock pig farmer will never be able to own or care for animals ever again.
28 year old Benjamin Stein pled guilty to four counts of animal cruelty in January, after over 1,000 pigs died while in his care in Langton back in 2017.
Mo Markham is one of the organizers of KW Animal Save. She says he can't be trusted.
"Anyone who can leave thousands of animals imprisoned in his barn to just die isn't somebody who should ever be trusted with animals again."
Her organization collected over 11,000 signatures on a petition and delivered it to Crown Attorney Elizabeth Wade Wednesday afternoon.
Stein will be back in court on Thursday for a pre-sentence report and members of KW Animal Save will be in attendance.
Markham says changes have to be made if we want to make sure this never happens again.
"I think there's something very wrong with our system that one person had the control of thousands of animals and there were no checks and balances on this until obviously it was very much too late when the SPCA arrived."
