Ingersoll's Alexandra Hospital one of the first in region to go live with HUGO
Ingersoll's Alexandra Hospital is taking extra steps to ensure mistakes don't happen.
Earlier this month the hospital went live with Healthcare Undergoing Optimization or HUGO, an electronic technology which is moving away from the paper process.
Alexandra Hospital Vice President Lisa Gardner says the computerization they have completed is physician orders as well as closed loop medication administration.
"That is the process in how we give out our medication so we are very excited because, although we already provide excellent, high quality safe care for patients, this has taken us to a higher level of safety. "
Gardner says nurses are now scanning a unique barcode both on the patient armband and on the patient's medication to ensure the patient is receiving the correct medication at the correct time always.
