Alan Dale will serve another term as Chair of the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Board.
UTRCA - The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Board has selected Alan Dale to serve another year as Chair.
Dale is the representative on the board for both Norwich and South-West Oxford and is also the Ward 4 councillor for Norwich Township. He says the goal of the board is to govern the conservation authority.
"Conservation Authorities are an extension of municipalities but they play a critical role for the Provincial Government. The Province no longer appoints board directors, they are appointed by the member municipalities. We have 15 board members at the UTRCA. A number of us are municipal politicians, some are not, they are citizen appointees but they are appointed by member municipalities, to represent those municipalities at the board level."
The services the UTRCA offers within our region include flood control, augmentation, water quality and park management. Dale says the pandemic has created some additional challenges as well.
"We are seeing more demand on usage at our parks, people want to get out there and enjoy the natural environment. We also do outdoor education."
Ingersoll's Brian Petrie was also named Vice Chair at the meeting on Tuesday morning. Other members from Oxford County include Paul Mitchell of Zorra Township, Mark Schadenberg representing the City of Woodstock and Margaret Lupton for East Zorra-Tavistock.
