Alarm Recall

Health Canada recalling roughly 112-thousand Kidde smoke alarms/carbon monoxide detectors.

Local fire departments are warning residents of a recent recall.

Kidde smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detectors were recalled by Health Canada and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission; this includes the smoke alarms and combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms.

The alarms are white, round, approximately 5-6 inches in diameter with an engraved Kidde logo on the front.  They are AC/DC powered and capable of hardwired interconnect.

Three different alarms are affected by the recall which is roughly 112,000 units and were sold between January and May of this year.

An internal quality check by Kidde found that the alarms performing a regular sensor health check may go into "latched" mode if the test occurs at the same time as a power outage.  Alarms in latched mode may not alarm in the presence of smoke and/or carbon monoxide and could send a faulty alert once power is restored - even if smoke and/or carbon monoxide is not present.

At this time there are no reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to this recall.

The affected alarms are KN-COSM-IBACA, i12010S-CO-CA and i12010S-CA.  If you have an alarm matching one of these serial numbers, you're encouraged to call Kidde directly at 1-888-784-2323 to get a free replacement smoke or combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarm.
