Ten year old Hannah Mae Miles donated $100 in animal supplies Tuesday to the Oxford County Animal Advocacy Group's animal welfare outreach program
The Oxford County Animal Advocacy Group is getting a boost from a ten year old Miss All Canadian Pageant participant.
Hannah Mae Miles was at the Beale Street Beer Store in Woodstock Tuesday to make a donation to their animal welfare outreach program which encourages members of the public to donate pet food and supplies to help those in need.
Hannah Mae donated $100 worth of supplies from her own pocket.
"I have two dogs and one cat and I just wanted to do it because I love animals and I wanted animals to have a Christmas as well."
Founder of the group, Al Garland tells Heart FM what the supplies will be used for.
"We support a number of people in need and organizations in need in the city as well as some feral cat colonies in the country. People like the Children's Aid Society, the women's shelters, ODSP plus people on the street, there's a couple of feral cat communities within the city where we drop off food."
Beer Store employee and fundraiser organizer Michelle Ramier says she started the animal welfare outreach program three years ago after the OSPCA took 100 dogs from an alleged puppy mill.
"And from that we knew we would want to start a food drive because there was going to be a need. We had such a wonderful response that we did it the second Christmas just in general for the SPCA and again, people were asking me when am I going to start this? how long is it going to run for? what do you need? so we wanted to continue the tradition."
Ramier says Hannah Mae's donation doubled what had already been donated this season.
