WOODSTOCK - The Oxford Renaissance Festival is moving to Dorchester next year.
Organizers are going to move the popular two day medieval festival to the Dorchester Fairgrounds. Director Greg Shuurman tells Heart FM why they will not be coming back to the Woodstock Fairgrounds next year.
"The main reason is just the aesthetics of the grounds, Dorchester fairgrounds is set up in a different way where it gives you more of a renaissance feel when you walk onto the grounds, there is no asphalt and concrete or hydro lines everywhere. Another big reason we are doing the move is obviously the populous is a lot bigger closer to London, we do get obviously a lot of people from the Woodstock area but do get a lot of people from the London are as well and we are hoping to move will help us to attract more people."
Shuurman adds they are still going to keep the same name and hope to return to Oxford County in the future at a different location in the woods.
He notes they actually named the festival after fictional village in Oxfordshire, England. This years festival suffered from a torrential downpour on the Saturday, however they did have good crowds attend on the Sunday and those who did brave the weather were treated to an old fashioned good time.
