The Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health provided an update on our current situation today on vaccines and LTC home outbreaks.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health provided an update on our current situation today.
Dr. Joyce Lock was speaking after another resident death at the peopleCare in Tavistock. Dr. Lock says the good news is our cases are starting to come down.
"We are encouraged to see our cases coming down since last December, please everyone keep up the incredible work you are all doing to reduce the cases in our communities."
Dr. Lock says we currently have 11 active outbreaks at long term care homes and we need to work together to bring the cases down.
"The virus is all around us in our community and it is all of our responsibility to lower community cases to help prevent this virus from entering a long term care home to begin with."
Dr. Lock also provided an update on vaccinations.
"This week, we are on track to deliver close to 600 doses to residents of long term care homes in our region. Our current supply is very limited, so we are focused, only on the long term care home residents, because they are at the greatest risk for serious illness and death."
Pfizer has expanded their European facility and the Province of Ontario will not be receiving any doses next week. Dr. Lock says they are expecting the supply to increase and resume at some point in February.
