Southwestern Public Health confirmed 13 new cases of the virus this morning, 11 recoveries and 7th COVID-19 related death in the region since the pandemic started.
OXFORD/ST.THOMAS/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health confirmed 13 new cases of the virus this morning and 11 recoveries.
They also confirmed the 7th COVID-19 related death in the region this morning. The Health Unit did issue this statement regarding the death:
"Southwestern Public Health was saddened to learn of the death of a male in his 40s in our region following infection with COVID-19. Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.
Because of the small number of deaths in our region, and the small communities we serve, we are not breaking out any further details out of the respect for the families affected."
We currently have 65 active cases with most of them in Woodstock. Here is the breakdown of the locations according to Southwestern Public Health:
Woodstock - 26
Ingersoll - 9
Norwich Township - 3
Zorra Township - 4
Tillsonburg - 4
South-West Oxford - 2
St. Thomas - 10
Aylmer - 7
To date we have had 10 institutional outbreaks at Long Term Care Homes. We only have one active outbreak right now at the Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock where 1 staff member has tested positve. We currently have 2 people in the hospital with COVID-19 in our region and one of them is in the ICU.
The number one symptom that has led to a positive test in the region is a cough, followed by a fever. Other symptoms that have resulted in positive tests include fatigue, headache, sore throat, shortness of breath and nasal congestion just to name a few. 18% of people who have tested positive in our region were asymptomatic.
