Nominations will end this Friday and the event will be in Ingersoll on March 8th.
INGERSOLL - It's your last chance to nominate someone for the AppreSHEation Awards.
The awards are handed out every year at the Oxford County celebrates International Women's Day Free event in March. The free event is actually moving to Ingersoll this year and will be held on a Sunday at the Unifor Local 88 Hall on Sunday March 8th.
Last years winner Makenna Hall is volunteering this year. She says winning the AppreSHEation award was a huge honour.
"It literally gave me a push to want to make the event that I created, GROW Girls Day, even bigger. And as well as being the youngest recipient, it really goes to show that no matter what age you can make a difference and you van truly inspire others."
She says her advice to this year's nominees and winner is to understand they're making impact in the community.
"Just to take in every second of being a nominee and being the 2020 recipient, understand that you have now this platform and this power to make change and really just with being a nominee and winning the award."
Her organization GROW Girls recently held an event, which featured Olympic Gold Medalist Tessa Virtue as the keynote speaker.
Nominations for the AppreSHEation awards close on February 14th, 2020. The Junior award is open to any female youth 18 years or younger and the other is open to any female adult. Those nominated should have volunteered their time to make a contribution to the empowerment of women in the community. Nominations can be submitted on the website or simply sent to iwdoxford@gmail.com.
