Political Parties Debate About Terrorists Living In Canada

A hot button issue on Parliament Hill right now is suspected terrorists living in Canada and what to do with them.

CANADA - Tensions remain high in the House of Commons as the two major parties squabble over suspected ISIS terrorists returning to Canada.

The Opposition Conservatives say the Liberals are going easy on these suspected terrorists, while the Liberals say the Conservatives are just using scare tactics. CSIS has confirmed that their are currently 60 foreign fighters who have travelled abroad to join ISIS or other terror groups are living in Canada.

Local MP Dave MacKenzie says we should not be trying to integrate anyone who has fought with ISIS back into our society.

"Charge them, if their is appropriate charges that fit the circumstances, then we should lay charges."

MacKenzie scoffs at the notion from Prime Minister Trudeau that his party is simply using scare tactics.

"It's simply not true, he says things all the time that are not true, I don't know where he comes up with some of these things. His Islamaphobia thing there and then he will switch and go another way, it's what's right, it has nothing to do with fear. We've had concerns expressed within the constituency, all of my colleagues have about all of the people they are bringing in as refugees without proper screening. When we bring in 65 or whatever the number may be and allow them back into the country and we know they have been over there fighting with ISIS, I don't know, sometimes I think the Prime Minister is see no evil, hear no evil with some of these folks and it's just not good enough."

The issue prompted a fiery exchange in the House of Commons this week with Trudeau and Opposition leader Andrew Scheer. Trudeau says the Liberals using a broad range of tools to keep Canadians safe. He also accused the Tories of playing fear politics in the last election.

"They ran an election on snitch lines against Muslims. They ran an election on Islamophobia and division. And still they play the same games trying to scare Canadians. The fact is, we focus on the security of Canadians and we always will. And they play politics of fear. And Canadians reject that."
