Ontario artists have until Tuesday October 26th to submit an expression of interest for the Bruce Flowers Sculpture Garden in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery is still accepting applications for the Bruce Flowers Sculpture Garden.
Ontario artists have until Tuesday October 26th at 11:59 p.m. to submit expressions of interest through mail or e-mail. More information can be found online here.
WAG Curator Mary Reid says the selected artist will be awarded a $55,000 commission for the completion of the project.
"We really believe in paying artists for their work. So we are asking people that are interested in being considered for the competition to send us their qualifications, we will then review them and we will short list three artists and pay them a stipend, to work up a proper proposal."
Installation of the artwork is expected to take place in 2023.
Bruce Flowers was a local artist and teacher and he left a good portion of his estate to the Woodstock Art Gallery after he passed away. Reid says they want to honour his vision.
"Part of the money was put into a trust and we have also been able to establish, as per his request a public sculpture garden. So the first stage of that was the establishment of the Florence Carlyle Park, which now also has a portion of that called the Bruce Flowers garden."
