Building Permit numbers surpass $150-million in Woodstock in 2013
Woodstock's economy has bounced back nicely from the recession.
Building permit numbers from 2013 have been released, showing the 3rd best year in the last decade for new construction.
Over $152-million in building permits were issued by the city last year, with industrial and residential sectors leading the way with $66-million and $65-million, respectively.
Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski says a big chunk of the figure is Sysco's new distribution centre in Commerce Way. Two permits issued for the project totals over $47-million.
Sobeski says that wasn't the only good news story in the community last year. "When you take a look at the permits that have been issued, it's a lot of existing companies that are expanding their facilities too. All in all, it bodes well, and hopefully that gives us momentum going forward in 2014."
Aside from Sysco, the biggest permits last year included $6.8-million for the Finkle St. Medical Building that has yet to begin construction, and a $4-million permit for an expansion of Steel Technologies Canada on Beards Lane.
As mentioned, building permits in 2013 was the 3rd best year in the last decade, only surpassed by the two years when the Toyota plant was being built (2007 & 2008).
