The Town of Ingersoll is celebrating its founding father today. It would have been Thomas Ingersoll's 264th birthday today, and the town is marking the occasion. A celebration will be held from 1-5PM at the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum. Curator Scott Gillies explains what's on tap. "A variety of historic demonstrations. Sort of activities Thomas would have been familiar with: blacksmithing, logsawing, spinning, weaving, lace making, as well as maple syrup demonstrations behind the museum building itself." There will be an official ceremony at 3PM, where town crier and Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey will declare it to be "Thomas Ingersoll Day". And of course, there will be birthday cake. The other hilight will be an appearance from Thomas Ingersoll's perhaps more famous daughter, Laura Secord. "Most people are totally blown away by the fact that we have such a close connection. Everybody knows about Laura Secord, but very few of them that come in beforehand have any clue that she was the daughter of Thomas Ingersoll." (Bottom - Secord warns British commander James FitzGibbon of an impending American attack at Beaver Dams (Lorne Kidd Smith, c.?1920) The event is free and open to the public, but the town asks attendants to bring a non-perishable food item or toiletries for Operation Sharing.
