Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Now Available in Ontario

Vulnerable Ontarians over the age of 18 can now book an appointment to receive the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose.

ONTARIO - Ontario is now offering bivalent COVID-19 booster doses to vulnerable members of the public over 18.

This includes people over the age of 70, long-term care residents, retirement home residents, pregnant individuals, health care workers, and First Nation, Inuit and Métis individuals.

Those who are eligible will be able to get the booster at least six months after their last shot, regardless of how many boosters they have already received.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore says encourages everyone to get the bivalent shot.

"The bivalent COVID-19 booster is a safe and effective way for people to better protect themselves against the most recently circulating COVID-19 variants in Ontario. As vaccine protection decreases over time, I encourage all Ontarians aged five and over to receive the booster dose they are eligible for."

Southwestern Public Health says all adults between the ages of 18 and 69 will become eligible for the bivalent booster on September 26th.

The province has decided to pause all new regular COVID booster appointments until September 26th in order to prioritize the bivalent booster. Previously booked appointments will still be honoured. 

Southwestern Public Health is no longer accepting walk-ins at its COVID-19 vaccination clinics starting today. This means you will have to book an appointment online through the province's booking portal or by calling 1-833-943-3900.
