Local Insurance Brokers provide the gift of warmth at Inn Out of the Cold
The Insurance Brokers Association is providing warmth to those who find themselves at Woodstock's Inn Out of the Cold.
The brokers, represented by Cowan Insurance, made a donation of 75 purple blankets to the shelter today.
Account Manager Duane Myers says, "These are donated by the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario and they do it on a yearly basis."
Melanie Jaques on why they chose Inn Out of the Cold for their annual blanket donation in Oxford County. "Well the people are on the streets, they need to come in out of the cold and they need assistance."
Cowan also donated blankets to Sakura House this afternoon.
Shelter Coordinator, Eric Schmiedl says the blankets will help replace some older ones that are worn out, and they will also send some of the blankets out with some of their guests. "This goes a long way in keeping our guests warm. Sometimes if someone is going off to another city, another place and they don't really know where they are going to end up, it's nice to be able to give them a blanket or two to keep them warm on the way."
He tells Heart FM they're averaging 3 to 4 guests per night already, and have seen a 7 unique guests in the first two weeks of being open. "That's pretty early for the season. Once really cold weather hits we'll have more. Last year we had 50 unique guests by the end of the season."
Schmiedl says they can always use donations of ground coffee, sugar, cereal and canned goods for their guests. Anyone dropping off donations can do so anytime after 7PM.
