The event is happening at their shelter this Monday in Brantford going from 12:00pm to 6:00 pm.
BRANTFORD - Monday is National Cupcake Day.
The Brant County SPCA is hosting the event and you can drop off a donation in exchange for a cupcake.
Team Leader of Community Engagement Logan White says the funds will go towards the shelter and their animals' general needs.
"We are are a non-for-profit so all of the support from our community does go towards the animals but also help run the shelter, keep everything working properly. So, yeah, typically all of those funds go to the animals' daily care whether that includes food, their housing, cage support, any medical needs that they do have. Each animal that comes in will get spay/neuter as a part of our program here."
She says says they rely on all of their volunteers and staff to bake the cupcakes for them, getting anywhere from 700 to 1,000 cupcakes brought to the shelter. White adds last year they baked pupcakes for the animals in their care.
White says it's a great way to learn more about the shelter and visit some animals while you're there.
"If you like animals, if you like sweet treats then it's kind of the perfect combination. And typically people out there usually have a pretty good love for one or the other."
White says the event was originally hosted by the Ontario SPCA and humane societies and SPCA's all around Canada can take part in it. It is the Brant County's SPCA's eighth time participating in the initiative.
She adds they encourage people and local organizations to host their own cupcake party and bring the funds directly to the Brant County SPCA. You can register on the OSPCA's website. If you are hosting a party and you want some help, you can email White at lwhite@brantcountyspca.com with the details and they'll setup some promotional materials.
Also, if you're not able to get everyone together then you can grab a virtual cupcake and make a donation on the Brant County SPCA's website.
Their shelter is on 539 Mohawk Street in Brantford and it goes from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
